Test match action

The Australian skipper has secured 309 wickets in 71 Test matches with an average of 22.10.

The Australian chief selector George Bailey has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will be a central figure in the forthcoming Ashes series.

There were concerns that Cummins might be unavailable due to a stress fracture in his back that had not yet healed.

Initial reports from team management suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series set to start on November 21 in the WACA.

The selector shared that the captain is progressing and remained hopeful about the prospects of taking part.

"We know that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations involved, not only the back issue, but other factors as well," he commented.

"It's positive. [We are] really confident that he will feature a major part. With luck it's the first Test. Should that not happen, we'll adjust."

Past Concerns

Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with setbacks in several earlier campaigns causing him to miss multiple domestic campaigns in four years.

Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the contest.

Bailey noted that there was no confirmation if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his recovery but admitted it was "pressing" for him to regain fitness for the opener.

Alternative Arrangements

In case of absence, veteran batsman Smith will take over the captaincy.

Versatile player Green was recently pulled out from Australia's squad for their one-day international series against India as a preventive step because of an abdominal issue.

Bailey described it as a "slight concern and confirmed that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "well-prepared to resume bowling."

"We put so much time has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the first Test as an all-rounder," he elaborated.

"His involvement was limited to the first two ODIs in any case. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, even if it just sets him back for another day, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
